Dr. Fauci Warns Don't Make This Mistake

Last week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made a major update to their mask guidance, revealing that it was safe for people who were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to go maskless indoors and out. However, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is concerned that some people are misinterpreting the latest guidance. Read on to hear his warning about the mask mistake you shouldn't make—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You Had COVID And Should Tell Your Doctor.

The New CDC Advice Was Meant Only For Those Who Are Fully Vaccinated

Dr. Fauci explained during an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo that the CDC made the change in guidelines "purely to allow people who've been fully vaccinated to realize that the scientific data itself indicates that it is safe for them to go without a mask, not only outdoors, but also indoors." However, it was only meant for those who are fully vaccinated.

"What happened is that that triggered an interpretation that we can now just throw masks away and nobody has to wear masks, which is obviously not the case, because for those who have not been vaccinated, their original guidelines stay exactly the same," he continued.

He added that due to the fact there are no vaccine passports to prove that someone has been vaccinated, establishments cannot manage the situation. "What happens if you have an establishment in which there'll be vaccinated people and unvaccinated people, you might have people come in and were infected, who have the risk of infecting someone else," he explained. This is why some establishment owners are still requiring masks.

If You Are Vaccinated, You Don't Have to Wear a Mask

While he understands why it can be confusing to some, it makes perfect sense to him. "I think it's simple. If you're vaccinated, you don't have to wear a mask. The science is there. Could you be contagious? Yes. But the chances are so low."

So follow Fauci's fundamentals and help end this pandemic, no matter where you live—wear a face mask that fits snugly and is double layered, don't travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don't go indoors with people you're not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, get vaccinated when it becomes available to you, and to get through life at your healthiest, don't miss: This Supplement Can Raise Your Cancer Risk, Experts Say.
