Publix Is Testing Out This New Service

Anyone who has ever forgotten a key ingredient at the grocery store when making a recipe knows how frustrating it can be to go pick it up. Now, Publix is looking to make the process of getting those groceries a little easier by making its new delivery service a whole lot quicker.

The 15-minute delivery solution is serviced through Instacart and is making its debut in Miami's Brickell, Coral Gables, and Wynwood neighborhoods, although the company plans to continue the rollout to other cities, the grocery delivery service recently shared with Eat This, Not That!. The 15-minute deliveries will be powered through Instacart's "nano-fulfillment solution," which Publix is calling its "Carrot Warehouses." The custom-model fulfillment centers will be available to process orders anytime throughout the day—morning or night.

"With today's Miami launch, Publix is bringing 15-minute delivery to their customers for the first time," said Daniel Danker, Vice President of Product at Instacart. "Whether it's a last-minute dinner ingredient or parents needing a quick restock on diapers, we know Miamians seek convenience in their lives and we're excited to collaborate with Publix to power it."

The nano-fulfillment centers allow Publix to offer thousands of items delivered– including fresh produce, dairy, and meat. The company claims it will have a broader selection of items than what is typically available for 15-minute delivery as well as ensuring items are in stock nearly 100% of the time.

After its debut in Miami, Publix intends to continue expanding Carrot Warehouses into Atlanta, Ga. While the company currently has a one-hour delivery system through Instacart at most locations, the new 15-minute delivery appears to function for smaller hauls as delivery fees vary by order size.

The launch comes at a time when the many in the delivery food market are seeing a decline in business. Just last week Just Eat Takeaway.com NV said it's considering a partial or full sale of its Grubhub less than a year after buying it for $7.3 billion. According to a statement released by the company, it's losing an unusually high level of customers across its key markets. While Just Eat Takeaway.com and Grubhub do most of their business through restaurant delivery, it is unclear if the changing market will affect grocery delivery sales as gas and inflation prices continue to go up.

Customers can access 15-minute delivery through Publix's mobile app and website, as well as the Instacart App and website by navigating to Publix Quick Picks. Publix currently operates 1,295 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia, although it's been expanding units.
